Can a goldfish tank be managed safely without a filter?

Hi we have a goldfish he's 4. I am sick of buying different filters that don't work well or keep breaking. If I don't have one can I just change the water (majority of it) twice a week? Would fish survive? Would it stay clean. Are there any other alternatives to having a filter? Just one small cold water goldfish.

I was the same a few years ago. I used to use charcoal filters which were crap but now use aquarium sponge in my filter (interpet) You can buy a big piece off amazon, cut it to size for your filter then just rinse it out when you do a water change.
Honestly it's a game changer. Saved me a fortune.
