I'm fairly sure dogs can't get pregnant outside of their seasons, it is physically impossible or something...

Someone with mroe knowledge will prob be along in a moment.

Don't think they are receptive until second week of season, after the dripping blood week. Then she will be offering her bottom to anyone and anything!

google says
A female can get pregnant during her heat anywhere from day 2 to 17 ...so I think shes safe

Thank goodness for that, we aren't totally sure she was completely 'loved' but we had a friends un-neutered male staying with us, and he wandered out of our kitchen, whilst she was yelping and trembling, and she looked a bit swollen round that area.

I didn't think dogs did it unless the female was in season?

she would have told him off if he tried it on this week as she is not ready. Being swollen in that area is one of the first signs of a imminent season.

ChopsTheDuck · 19/06/2008 16:33

females won't normally allow themselves to be mounted out of season.

bratnav · 19/06/2008 19:22

well that's what I thought chops. Have spoken to the vet who thinks that even if he managed it she will be ok

A word of caution. If she looked swollen immediately after the possible mating, it could be that she was already in season but, as it is her first, it hadn't been obvious to you. It sounds fairly unlikely that she could become pregnant, but not impossible. If you want to be very, very sure there is an injection called Mesalin that can be given on days 3 and 5 post mating (where day of mating is day 0).
