Hi , My elderly dad is struggling to afford what he needs for his cat. What would be the cheapest effective flea and worming ?

We get Stronghold (flea) and Milpro (worm) from our vet - not cheap but the OTC stuff isn't particularly effective. The vet should give a prescription script which can be ordered online, and that will be cheaper than buying from them direct. Your dad would need to ask for this as this option wouldn't be offered as it loses them money.

Agree with don't buy otc stuff, it's useless as it's not strong enough.

Have a chat with the vet as they might be able to help such as advising giving every two months etc. They should only need worming twice a year, and if his cat doesn't go outside during the winter months he might not need to give flea treatment during that time - but he needs to discuss options first. Vets are very sympathetic if you say you are struggling and can tweak things around.

Actually in all honesty writing a prescription one a year probably makes more straight profit than selling the flea stuff once you think about all the costs to the business. But it reduces turnover, but we al know that is for vanity, profit is sanity.
