A sick stray cat disappeared – how can I bring him back?

A stray cat had been coming to my yard, and he clearly didn’t look well. I had been feeding him regularly and trying to slowly build trust. My plan was that once he felt comfortable enough, I would take him to the vet and, if possible, keep him.
The last time he came, I tried to call him closer, but I suddenly had to go inside, and he stayed outside. Since then, I haven’t seen him again.
Now I’m worried that his condition may have gotten worse. I’m trying to figure out the best way to find him or encourage him to come back. Should I contact a rescue organization, or is there something else I should try?
I’m really hoping for advice on what my next step should be.

You'll just have to wait and see if he comes back. You can't really contact a rescue and say you've seen a cat but don't know the owner or where the cat is now. Fingers crossed he's ok and someone else has managed to get him to a vet already

Putting out a humane trap with tasty food inside is probably the best chance of helping him/her. Once trapped a vet check and chip check sound in order. A wildlife or Blink type camera can be useful to see if it's still coming. A rescue should be able to help with trapping. I hope you are able to find him. 🤞

Probably someone else nabbed it and took it to a rescue. Or, it was sicker than you thought.

I'd also leave food out for it, if it gets eaten it may well still be about.
