New Budgie, when?

Our beloved budgie passed away last night, he had to be euthanised by the vet, seemed to be a neurological issue and very distressing.

Now we have one singular male budgie who has always had the older for company. We are due to go on holiday for two weeks at the start of February. Budgies are always left at home with family checking on them, feeding, fresh water etc.

I have read some conflicting information about getting a new bird, some say wait for 3-4 weeks to allow remaining budgie to grieve, others say to get one as soon as possible to provide company and a distraction.

The issue is the upcoming holiday and leaving the poor wee thing alone for so long with limited interaction.

What would anyone suggest? Get one now and introduce slowly before holiday or leave it until home? I’m so conflicted 😢

Budgies are very flock orientated from my experience so I would get one asap, but explain to the breeder the circumstances. Just incase it doesn't work out.
The breeder may have ideas to help your remaining one come to terms with loosing his pal.
