I seem to have been adopted by a cat. What do I do?

A friendly ginger cat appeared in our garden last Friday, hanging around and trying to come in the house. She's been here ever since!!

I haven't fed her, and haven't let her indoors but she has been around constantly since last week. I think she must be owned and not a stray as her eyes and ears are clean, she looked well fed and is very friendly. She doesn't have a collar.

I'm wondering if her owners have gone on holiday as she seems to be getting hungrier (trying to climb in the kitchen window when I'm cooking) and looks like she has lost weight. I have put water out for her but thought it best not to feed her if she has an owner, but am now wondering whether to feed her or not. Should I phone the RSPCA? She is a lovely cat but I don't want a pet!

What should I do?

A friend's cat appeared with a collar so they used it to send back a note explaining that it was well fed and much loved, just a scrounger! So maybe you could consider a collar with a note attached to ask?

I would phone the RSPCA - she may be microchipped and have just moved house (for instance.

Ah, didn't think about microchipping.

Will call them tomorrow. If no joy will try attaching a collar and a note (but she doesn't seem to go far!)

She could be lost. I would call the Cats Protection League, rather than the RSPCA. I think they are less bogged down in red tape.

And if she's losing weight, feed her and do go on giving water until you can get a charity to take her.
