Any tips on successfully introducing a puppy to an older dog?

We collect our puppy on the 22nd (and I'm cacking myself about that anyway) but how do we make it less painful for our dear old 14 year old, who can barely get up? TIA

Introduce them on neutral ground, not at home.

Make lots of fuss of the existing dog.

Don't leave them alone together for the first few days, if possible.

Did this with my puppy and 15 yr old dog last year. Like Muffin says, introduce them on neutral ground. Around the house make sure your older dog has time to escape from your puppy and rest! I used stair gates and my older dog often escaped to the garden, and a crate for the puppy is invaluable - gives everyone quiet time and helps with housetraining and destructive behaviour. I also fed my older dog first, gave her treats first etc. For the first couple of months my older dog wasn't at all interested in the puppy and did bark at him sometimes, but as he got bigger she started to run around with him and they played together, sadly we lost her when my pup was 6mths old, and he missed her quite alot, but she was a good age and had a good life. And she taught him alot about how to behave!
