DD, 6, is animal mad and I can relate as I'm the same. I grew up in a house full of dogs, cats, gerbils, hamsters etc, my mum took in any waif and stray and it was one of the best parts of my childhood.

Problem is we have an older gent of a cat who hates dogs and wouldn't much like another cat either. He's a lazy BSH and has never even caught a fly but I'm worried about him suddenly becoming a master hunter. Is there any pet I could get DD that would potentially work?

Can she not just look after the cat? Do his food and brush him?
