posted similar in allergy section. forgive me but still in a dilemma!.
i want to get some guinea pigs.

ds2 may be allergic but i don't know for sure.

he is defo allergic to some dogs and has horrendous hayfever.

i can't really test his response to guinea pigs first as he is on antihistamines and suffering pretty bad with hayfever at the moment anyway.

of course i really don't want to make him ill but i was intending to house the guinea pigs outside. so, would it really be a problem ? would you get them ? or am i stupid to even consider ?

Personally I would avoid pets. We don't have any for allergy reasons.
He would want to pick them up even if they were outside wouldn't he.

You need to be sure he's not allergic to them. If he is - get him a lizard etc.

I was allergic to cats and horses. BUt I still went to my friends and stroked her cats - then my eyes (stupid girl) and rode horses.

Now I own 2 cats have no allergies and still go riding again with no allergies.

Sometimes I think exposure can help but just be careful.

i have let him hold a guinea pig but he already has sore eyes, itchy skin from hayfever.

i wouldn't be able to tell until september. didn't want to wait till then.

ds2 adores animals, he asks me over and over for a pet. he has a fish but it's really boring . i also have another non allergic son who is bugging me too!

none of us would be fond of anything lizard like i'm afraid!

How about a couple of rats ? They seem pretty unallergenic, are easy to care for, friendly and interesting, and live on non allergenic wood shavings.

My mum developed a raging allergy to guinea pigs when I was 5 and we had to get rid of them - she can't go within a few feet of them without her skin flaring, and the hay bedding doesn't help either.

not sure how i feel about rats !
he has a hamster at school but i really don't want one because they are nocturnal.

They are really nice - mum used to have them for her infants class, and they were always popular. The hooded rats don't look like the wild ones.

I agree that hamsters are very boring

i think they might give me the creeps tbh. i know that sounds mean but it's their tails i think !
