Hi. I would appreciate any advice on a suitable small- medium size dog breed for a family, first time dog owners. Teenage kids. Someone at home working daily. Could take dog for an hour walk a day, more at weekends, have local dog walker if needed. Thank you

What about grooming?

My recommendation would be a staffie. Got ours from a reputable breeder in May, she’s been amazing and we adore her.
Before her we had a beautiful boy Labrador, he needed alot of exercise, moulted constantly too.

I’ve seen Bedlington terriers get favourable reviews on here too.

Dogs do like a routine, so think carefully what you are able to commit each and every day for the next 15 years or so. Puppies are really hard work at first, so if you are not prepared to put the time and patience, maybe consider an older rescue.

If you want a small dog poodle or border terrier. A bigger dog go for a lab. They’re great family pets especially when you’ve got teenagers Pick your breeder carefully ideally go for farm bred or working home who don’t breed often. Or a field trials line as they have to be very well behaved. I know this goes against what MN usually says but our local registered lab breeders line breed and it seems to produce mad dogs that never settle.
