Puppy night waking

Molly2008 · 10/11/2025 18:26

My 5 month old cavapoo puppy used to sleep through 9:30pm to 6:00am. Last 2 weeks he’s started waking randomly 3am 4am or 5am and refusing to re settle in crate alone.

I have tried feeding small meal before bed. Lights off and quick wee back to crate but he just cries - eventually I can get him calm by sitting in pen with him and then I have to sleep on the sofa - if I try to leave he starts again.

What do I do? I don’t want him in my room. He’s fine going to bed so a bit unsure if I should sleep on sofa with him as it might set him back?

Might he be feeling cold? That’s the time of night when the temperature drops. Maybe an extra blanket or (controversial) pyjamas would help.

I put an extra blanket in my dogs crate he "makes his bed" to suit can you do that ? My dog sleeps in with me so he settles quickly if he wakes, can you have your dog outside your room, he might be less lonely.

Do you cover his crate?

GlassofRosePorfavor · 10/11/2025 22:43

Sounds like he has you well trained! 😂

I would honestly put my earplugs in, play white noise and ignore him. I might get up an hour earlier if I'm feeling generous. When I go into him I would make my tea first without eye contact or talking. Then ket him out for toilet and then let the day begin! Good luck op puppies are the absolute best and worst 😂

GlassofRosePorfavor · 10/11/2025 22:44

Caveat: only because he's been previously sleeping through the night happily

Molly2008 · 11/11/2025 04:39

Yep crate is covered and he has a blanket in there which he doesn’t touch. Even when I go down I know he’s not desperate for a wee as he messes around before doing one.

You dont want him in your room but you are sleeping on the sofa so he doesnt cry

Makes no sense

Just let him sleep in your room and be comfortable in yohr own bed

Molly2008 · 11/11/2025 05:54

But then you can’t go away and leave them with anyone

Well you cant expect the person to sleep on the sofa either

We do. Our dog goes to kennels when we are away and he is absolutely fine, he had his first overnight at 8 months.
