When we went out, he somehow got out of the room - with a baby gate on the door - where he sleeps. he was very sheepish looking when we got back, but we couldn't see any sign of him having been eating anything.
However he has got more and more almost lethargic, and he is really yelping when we tried to open his mouth, and he yelped before for no apparent reason.
His pet insurance doesn't kick for another 10 days and I have £80 to last until the 19th!

Do you have a PDSA near you?

saltire · 06/06/2008 17:46

I'm not on benefits though, you need to be to go to them

My kitten was like this at xmas. Had chewed through the cable to tree lights. Is his breathing o.k?

Do you think your vet could treat him now and wait til you can claim - kind of put the dates in wrong? Surely they wouldn't just turn you away?

saltire · 06/06/2008 17:50

I don't think they wil do that.
he defiantely ahsn't chewed through anything today, although he did on Tuesday!

Has he got something stuck in his upper jaw? Sometimes my terriers get bits of stick, etc, wedged in the roof of their mouth.

micci25 · 06/06/2008 18:12

the first thing you need to do is estbalish wether or not he has actually got something in his mouth. try offering him his favourite food and that should get him to open his mouth for you. dont let him eat the food though incase he has eaten cleaning produce or something

if not you really do need to take him the vets. the reason you cannot find any signs that he has eaten anything could be because he has eaten all of whatever it was. my mum once locked her puppy in the bathroom for an hour while going out to ensure it wasnt attacked by her bigger dog while she was out, when she came home it eaten the whole of the bathroom rug, all of it every last scrap, either that or the rug had just decided to leave home all alone.

He won't let us open his motuh at all. he is yelping really loudly when we try. he won't eat either. he got up and yawned jsut now - or at least tried to, and yelped again.
He won't event ry to eat, although he did lick some water off my fingers.
There is nothing missing that he could ahve eaten. he hasn't been sick, is walking fine and peeing and pooing ok. He's jsut quiet, Dh says its almost as though he is feeling sorry for himself - the pup that is not DH
He won't go near DH now becasue he tried to look inh is mouth.
have tried the vets - they seemed to think it was ok to wait until monday as they ahd no appointments. I managed to convince them otherwise and he is going at 8pm

petplan is immediate for accidents - 10 days for illness. Not sure who your insurers are but is this worth checking? Maybe you arecovered?

bethoo · 06/06/2008 18:49

some vets will let you pay at a later date.

micci25 · 06/06/2008 18:59

oh yeah my insurance is also immediate for accident its healthy pets and is quite cheap but there is £50 excess fee.

my vet lets me pay weekly if needed for things insurance doesnt cover i.e. frontline, vaccinations etc. but he is a family friend, might be worth asking though.

where are you? dont you know anyone on benefits who could take the puppy to pdsa?
