Dog vs work

Hey everyone!
Lately, I adopted a dog named Marian. The first two weeks were amazing, I had a lot of free time and could spend all day with him. But now I have to go back to work. Do you have any tips on what I can get for my dog so I don’t come back home to find everything destroyed?
To be honest, I’m a beginner in this topic, so I’d be really grateful for any tips!

How long are you going to be out the house for? Are you having a dog walker? Leaving the radio on is a good tip.

How long is she going to be left for ?

Cardomomle · 26/10/2025 16:37

Sorry, no dog tip - I just had to ask why you called him Marian? That's an interesting choice!

And also building up the length of time the dog is left so they get used to it but if you’re back at work tomorrow that idea might be too late.

Maybe she's a John Wayne fan.

I was thinking the same!

You shouldn’t leave Marian (fab name) for longer than about 4 hours at a time. Hopefully you have thought about this already, and work from home part of the week? Get toys etc, and consider leaving the radio or tv on. My dogs like easy listening music, lol.

You're going back to work tomorrow & only thinking about this now?? From being at home with him all day to out to work all day (??).

why did you adopt him if (?) you work full time?

I think the best thing you can do at this late stage is to see if any friends/family are free to spend the day with him (at yours) tomorrow.

Then if (??) you work full time see what flexible arrangements they can accommodate.

He needs company, not just toys.

& where us the Dig Tax?? (Photo)

Could be an Eastern European rescue that maybe already had that name?

Magic fans Autumn? As in tricks? Maybe they are learning something, lol. I only know my guys like easy listening because they somehow got Suri to turn it on while I was out! So now they get it when I go out and defo seem to like it, lol.

Yes, or a John Wayne fan, as pp said. Different, though!

fatcat2007 · 26/10/2025 17:04

I’d look for a dog sitter in your area or work from home. Rover is good. Does your dog happily accept being left for four hours? If so you could get away with a walk before and after work and visiting at lunch time with a toilet break and play time. Congratulations on your new dog!

🤣🤣🤣🤣no, the station!

funnily enough I HATE magic tricks!!

This is something you should have thought about before, especially with a rescue dog who is just getting used to a new environment.

Hence not convinced you're for real as any responsible person getting a dog would do research and care enough to make arrangements when going back to work.
