Right ill
get straight to the point. I need HELP! Vets and Google just isn’t cutting it. I took on a female cat for a friend of a friend who couldn’t look after her anymore due to a family emergency in his home country. I asked if she was neutered and chipped they said yes. Well she’s neither. She’s had her vaccines though so I’m guessing there was a language mix up. Anyways she’s now 5 weeks and 3 days pp to 4 gorgeous kittens. They have took to litter training like a pro! Problem is weaning. They are having none of it. Iv tried the following : wet food, dry food, kitten milk mixed with food, feeding mum with them, feeding them without her there. They are just not having none of it. They cry until they latch to mum. Also how do I keep her in until she can get neutered? We have zero space at home and one big front to back room with sliding patio doors. If I keep her locked up she’s feral and starts attacking the kittens and basically everyone else. Iv spoken to the vet and they’ve said I have to wait until the kittens are rehomed and then 2 weeks after so she’s completely finished producing milk. She’s managed to escape twice so far. I’m scared she’ll be pregnant again. Any tips or advice would be amazing plz xxx

I can only advise on the weaning: don’t rush it. They’ll try when they are ready. Just keep offering small quantities. I usually weaned kittens to Natural Instinct Kitten paste, mixed with some water to a soft sludge and I added some kitten milk powder.

Oh, she WILL get pregnant again. You need to find a way to keep her in.

I’m really trying. She’s got a massive crate all decked out and a litter tray but she turns nasty if I don’t let her out. Shes clawed my 3 year old. Iv spoke to the vet and they said it’s because she’s young. If she’s pregnant when I take her in to get neutered they might be able to abort them. Sounds sad but I don’t want her to go through this again. She had 6 but 2 died at birth.

They can do a spay abort if she's pregnant again - I personally would try different vets as I think she can be spayed now - might be worth seeking advice from your local cat rescue - they'll have the most experience of when she can be done.. A spay abort isn't ideal but there are so many unwanted cats right now that its the most sensible and ethical option. Good luck.

Iv spoken to 3 different vets and all have said the same thing. Have to wait until they’ve all been re homed and 2 weeks after to fully make sure she’s not lactating. I’m sure they’ve changed it as I remember 16 years ago when I got my first cat she had a litter and was able to spay her at 4 weeks pp when they started weaning. One of the places I rang was RSPCA
