Hi I'm just looking for advice. My now 11 year old labradoodle had surgery for the above in his right eye last year. He was getting ulcers that were never healing and although he was irritated by the eye he appeared well. Little did we know he would have been in a lot of pain. One year later and I think the other eye has become worse and would require the same. The surgery was very expensive, risky due to age and he had to have it twice as it didn't really work first time.
We know he will never be cured and we have done our best with eyedrops pretty much every other hour of the day but now this other one is in a bad state (similar to have the right eye was) - is it time to put him down?
We love our dog greatly but it is very costly for something that might not work, isn't curable and risky due to age. I know he will be in more pain than he let's on and he still eats and walks but he is pretty much blind because of it and he bashes into things and when out he is anxious (always has been but worse now understandably). Or do we pay the money for the surgery/eye removal and hope he has more life to live and just ignore the financial burden? We have good insurance but it's now £150 a month with a 20% excess.
Anyone who has been in this situ or similar please let me know your thoughts as I don't know what is best for him!
