Orla the spaniel

Pictures of the Prince of Wales were published this week to celebrate his birthday with his cocker spaniel and her puppies. Nice picture but concerned to see mum had a docked tail when I thought tail docking was now illegal. I know working cockers traditionally had docked tails to prevent injury whilst hunting in undergrowth but she's hardly going to be working in the palaces of Windsor
AIBU that a cruel practice continues just for vanity

With respect, for all any us know, Orla might be out with the guns every time there’s a shoot. In which case her tail is appropriately docked.

It’s really not any of our business without knowing what else goes on in Orla’s life.

Not illegal in working spaniels.

My working spaniels have docked tails. Someone I know whose dog wasn't docked, ended up having to have it amputated as it was constantly getting injured.

Orla is a working line spaniel no doubt getting hours of off lead time daily. Docking is sensible and safer for the dog.

My spaniel has a docked tail, as do most of the other working line spaniels I know. Of those that aren’t docked I know at least 3 who have ended up having to have it amputated after a horrible injury.
Seeing mine hunting through dense undergrowth I am very glad his tail is docked!

Nothing illegal about a docked tail in a working spaniel - in fact, it often makes things much safer for the dog.

My cocker has a docked tail, he's from a working litter- after seeing what my friends cocker went through with happy tail syndrome- I'm ok with it! Multiple surgeries and nearly a year of vets and suffering- poor girl! She's doing brill now tho.

They must work her, so a docked tail is fine.
