Cat hyperthyroidism

My 18 year old cat has just been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. The vet has given us a bottle of medication which lasts 7 days, this cost £30. Is this how much it will cost per week forever? Not including all the thyroid blood tests needed to check levels?

My 16 year old has been diagnosed nearly 4 years. She has tablets twice a day. I was initially getting it through the vet as had insurance and it was £65 for one month (60 tablets). But cancelled insurance now as it was £175 a month!

Anyway, they told me to order online, I pay £35 for a prescription and it's 2 scripts worth. I get 100 tablets per script for £24. So much cheaper. The website is Pet drugs Online. Might be worth looking into?

Hope your cat is OK.

That’s great thanks. I’ve been given Thyronorm 30ml bottle. My cat needs a dose of 2mg twice day, we were given the bottle today and the receptionist said it would last a week! After checking it’s should last a month. It cost £30. I can see it’s cheaper online but you need a prescription from the vets, I’ll see how much that would be. I know we will have to take her for t4 tests every few weeks I expect to check the dose. We only found out as she’s been having cystitis badly and needing antibiotics. A blood test three weeks ago was fine, then another test last week showed thyroid at 70. She’s had ultrasound and no infection. The vet called us last night to tell us our cat needs thyroid medication and to collect it today. No other info.
