bald spot on cats neck

It the size of a penny. The vet put some front line spot on stuff around there, could it have burnt her skin, and caused the fur to come out? no fleas - it was just a precaution.

Yes it could be a reaction to the Frontline. It won't have burnt the skin as such, but a small number of cats do react to spot on treatments and lose some hair. As long as the skin looks normal and the cat is not itchy you shouldn't need to worry. But it is worth mentioning to your vet before you next apply anything, as they may suggest an alternative product.

Same here [blush

I thopught it was because I had used the cheap stuff.

It is growing back and doesn't appear to be bothering her.

i usually buy the tesco stuff, and had treated her two weeks ago, but vet said (during a booster jab visit)thats no good, and gave this to her. I know it is stronger stuff, so thats why i wondered. Not sore, and it isnt bothering her though - she just doesn't look so pretty!

oh MehgaLegs , just read your thread! Isn't that funny - well frontline isn't cheap, so we can rule that theory out!

We used to use Stronghold but it's just too expensive.

The stuff I bought had two tubes. I used the first one on her three months ago, no problems. this was the second dose. She looks a bit moth eaten poor thing.

could it be a flea allergy ? my cat had this and lost fur on his neck

Crystaltipsandalaistar · 19/05/2008 14:32

She hasn't got any on her though, I have searched, as that is what i wondered!

Cats can go bald because of stress. If something is bothering/upsetting her, for example, another can in the neighbourhood encroaching on her turf, she'll go bald until things settle down again. It's more cosmetic than medical, if it is stress related.

Thanks Doodle2u, thats interesting,as we do get other cats coming over to see us. They are all in and out of the garden all day long - 3 of them!
Puddycat just come in with blood round her cheeks - looks like she had a rabbit for dinner!
