I upset my cat

By giving her tablets tonight.

She has to have 5 tablets a day - 2 in the morning, 3 in the evening and this is not new. I split the tablet-giving with my partner but tonight was one of the nights she looked fairly traumatised.

Whyyyy do they have to give you those big tortured eyes??

Try Royal Canin Pill Assist! My cat loves it and you can break it up to cover several pills. It is expensive but worth it if the pills are for a relatively short time.

@nyancatdays I will try, thank you, but we've used similar versions to no effect.

She's been easy to dose for a couple of years but her meds got changed after Christmas and she hates the taste of the new one - won't take anything in anything anymore.

Before she'd eat them out of our hands and then have a treat. Now we're having to pop them down her throat ☹️

Aw, bless her. My cat's on twice daily meds. I use a pair of tweezers to drop it down her throat, it's quick and easy.
I just hold her on the worksurface with my right arm, hand under her chin and use my left to pick up the tablet. I use my right hand to get her to open her mouth and drop the tablet in. Your cat might not taste it then, or at least not so much?

god I think she'd actually move out if I used tweezers!

I slip my ring finger in the side of her mouth to push it down, it's the gentlest and most effective way I've found and one that she seems to tolerate the best. Followed a gentle squirt (so as not to shock) of water from a syringe to help wash it down (she won't always take licky lix anymore).

It would be SO much simpler for me and a happy experience for her if she'd just eat it with her treats again 🙄

I can’t stand giving my cat tablets. I feel like I’m breaking her trust. With my last cat we used Giver Cat. It worked a treat but she loved food.

murasaki · 23/04/2025 22:56

I crushed them up in wet food. No chance otherwise.

She knows! Won't touch it. Even the stinkiest fish, or pill putties.

You might catch her out once but never again and she'll look at all offerings with suspicion afterward.

Had to stop because she stopped eating and was losing weight.

The breaking of trust - 100% breaks my heart
