kittens nearly 5 weeks old and not interested in weaning,

I have read that kittens should be weaned at between 3 and 5 weeks. Our babies are 5 weeks on Saturday and just not interested in food at all - they are lovely, bright little creatures so no worries there but I know people like to buy kittens at around 8-10 weeks and they will need to be weaned by then.

any hints or tips?

You could try offering them a smear of kitten food on your finger for them to lick off. They may be more receptive if you know they haven't fed from their mum for a while and are getting hungry. Like human babies, they need to work out what to do with the food, eating is so different from suckling. But eventually, they will go nose first into the food dish!

If they are not interested in wet food try offering them some dry kitten biscuits. Most kittens will prefer wet at this age but I have known the odd one refuse wet but adore biscuits, even though they have the tiniest little teeth still at that age! They are still quite young so don't worry too much just yet. Mum probably has a good milk supply for their needs still so they are less keen to feed on solids.
