Cats - Best Flea Treatment

TallulahDoris · 23/03/2025 17:39

Help! Despite all my efforts my cat has been out and once again brought home some flea lodgers! I’ve tried almost everything on the market such as Frontline, Advantage and Bob Martin plus natural oils such as lavender, nothing is working 😔Can anybody recommend a treatment that does the job please? Thanks

Get it from your vet. I use nexguard combo and it treats worms as well as fleas.

We are using Felpreva. It does flea and worms every three months. We’d tried other things including prescribed from the vets but this is the only one that seems to work long term.

I don’t think the over the counter products are very effective any more. I’d recommend going to the vet for some prescription treatment even though it’s likely to cost an arm and a leg. Our cat was riddled with fleas when we acquired him, the prescription Stronghold that we got from the vet obliterated the fleas very quickly.

You have to go to a vet Advacate is very good. Our vet gives me the prescription so I can get it cheaper online. Dose is one a month

Fleas have become resistant to a lot of treatments. We have found that Advantage, Frontline, Stronghold and Advocate no longer work. Our clinic now only prescribes Nexgard. I've heard that Felpreva and Bravecto also still work

thecatneuterer · 23/03/2025 18:16

And you can only get those on prescription.

Pigeonqueen · 23/03/2025 18:17

Bravecto from the vet. Over the counter ones don’t work.

Another vote for going to the vet. My dog got fleas even with using supermarket flea treatment. I also used indorex for the house (recommended by the vets but bought on Amazon).

JackieQueen · 23/03/2025 18:25

The spot ons stopped working for us so we now use credilo tablets from the vets.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Off to the vets we go 😼

Bravecto is the only stuff that works that I know of. It’s £43 every three months from Pets at Home but I would rather pay that than have fleas!

What do you mean? You buy it from Pets at Home? It's only on prescription isn't it?

Nexgard also works incidentally.

Hi, sorry if this was unclear but it’s from Vets for Pets on prescription, they are based in Pets at home.
