Get him to the vet, asap.

Busterbrown1mama · 19/03/2025 14:03

I kind of figured that you were going to say that but that is hard to do that when there are no vets around here and I have absolutely no funds

He needs a vet.

HeartShapedBox · 19/03/2025 14:08

Pdsa? Borrow money off someone? The cat needs seen before the infection gets worse, I don't think this is something that can, or should be dealt with at home, he might need antibiotics.

PlanetOtter · 19/03/2025 14:11

He needs a vet. If you have animals, you need a plan for how to fund vets.

ScottBakula · 19/03/2025 14:23

I am normally for 'clean it up and see how the are' approach but that needs to be seen by a vet !
Take him to the pdsa or ask your vet ( presume he is registered, vac'd neutered at a vets etc ) if you can work out a payment plan .
I have found any decent vet will work with you as best as they can .

So what exactly are you asking?

Busterbrown1mama · 19/03/2025 17:49

Thank you everyone for telling me that I should take him to the vet but I called the veterinarian hospital and what I'm doing for him is good keeping it clean and wiped off if it starts to change colors or starts to smell I need to get him into there as quick as possible

Is he neutered?

Wolfiefan · 19/03/2025 20:29

No way did any vet see that and say just keep it clean. And is he neutered?

I am surprised a vet would diagnose over the phone

Jenthewrenn · 19/03/2025 20:56

Please get him neutered, there is no need for him to remain a Tom and he will have a much better life and not be inclined to fight and get injured if he is neutered. You can often get help with paying for neutering and it is the best thing to do for your cat after you get treatment for that wound. The reason he is running wild is because all he can think about is finding females and neutering will prevent this.

Chuchoter · 19/03/2025 21:38

Book him in and get him neutered at the same time.

Sell something to pay for the treatment or surrender him if you cannot afford to pay for insurance or for his veterinary care.

If you don't get him neutered he's going to keep getting into fights and get abscesses.

How will you do this with no funds and no vets?

I can’t stop thinking about your poor cat and I am shocked that the vet hasn’t even seen given you this advice without even seeing the injury.

I am not sure if you are in the UK ( phrase/ spelling ) but I don't know of any vet that would diagnosis over the phone , why would they? They don't make money that way .

But you say you will take him to the vets once it starts smelling or changing colour.

You do know that smell and colour change means his flesh is beginning to rot don't you ?

HeartShapedBox · 19/03/2025 23:45

I call bullshit, no way a vet told you that over the phone. Apart from the fact they wouldn't make any money by handing out free advice on the phone, if you followed "their advice " and your cat deteriorated and passed away, you'd then be trying to sue them for it and dragging their name / their practice through the mud and costing them money both in legal fees and in loss of earnings as a lot of people would change their pets to a new vets if they heard they were being sued/ had caused an animal to die due to bad advice/ professional negligence. They can't advise you on anything without actually seeing your cat right in front of them.

@HeartShapedBox I think we cross post , I 100% agree with you .

I think so, I got distracted halfway through my post and by the time I'd finished and posted you'd posted -

I'm unsure whether the op is genuinely looking for advice to "treat" her cat's wound at home (and claiming to have called a vet so everyone stops advising her to do so) or whether this is a begging thread disguised as an advice-seeking one...
