Housebound German Shepherd

Hello, I just wondered what you guys would do/say, if anything...

I've lived in a new house for a year now, my neighbour has a German shepherd which I believe is at least 1 year old. I noticed early on that its never left the house, I have never even seen it when it's in the garden so I can't say what state it's in. Our houses are attached and it's always barking and getting in trouble. You may think how do I know it's never walked, but after a year of never seeing it I think I'm certain on this for numerous reasons. I'm on maternity leave so I'm home a lot and our homes are so connected that I can hear doors closing/opening. My baby likes to stand at the window and that's where the sofa is positioned, that said it's very easy to notice the neighbours routines! (Whether you want to or not 😂).
I just feel really bad for the dog, am I being unreasonable for wanting to get involved?

Don't bother, RSPCA won't do jack shit if it's fed and housed and if your neighbours are treating a dog this way they'll be too thick as fuck to see anything wrong with it. Wankers.

Thanks for your comment, ugh that's such a shame! I feel so bad for it. They have a small garden like me full of sheds and kids play stuff so I know there's no space for it to run even there. At the very least I hope he LOOKS healthy...

Poor thing must be going mad! I've had GSDs all my life and they need exercise and mental stimulation more than most breeds. Even if the RSPCA won't do anything I'd send them a message. Or look for a breed-specific rescue near you, if the next door neighbour doesn't even walk it, they might be pleased if someone takes it off their hands

Call your local dog warden, they should go out for a visit.

Funny you say about being pleased having it taken of their hands, the owner had mentioned last year that she would rather not have it and she doesn't understand why it always barks and apologised for the noise. I hadn't been living here for long at that point so I didn't want to comment or suggest it's because it needs to exert some energy! Thanks for commenting, I'll send a message to RSPCA and see what they suggest, also noted on looking into contacting a local breed-specific rescue

Thank you for this suggestion I didn't know this was a thing, I'll look it up!

They won't do anything. It's not illegal to never walk your dog.
