Your tabby cats personality

My tabby cat passed away a couple of years ago now. We still miss and talk about her including the kids. She was such a softy, always on one of our knees and amazing with the kids from day one. I genuinely can't remember her scratching or bite us once even accidentally.

When I was a child my neighbour also had two tabbies that were similar personalities. They often came in the garden and I would play with them or they just sat with me like they enjoy the company. Also a friend of mine has one again a similar lovely personality.

Just wondered others experiences of tabby cats? Is this just a coincidence or are they known more affectionate than average. My family have had other cats/breeds with varying degrees of friendless. I just seem to have only meet nice tabby cats.

I’ve had four male (neutered) tabbies at various times over the years. They have all been very affectionate, happy to share a home with dogs and friendly to family and visitors.

Cute cute cute . Teeth and claws. Repeat. I love her. We have a chat at 4am when she wakes me up to watch her eat.
Then the zoomies up and down the stairs.
Slamming open doors to make an entrance.
She's ace.

My tabbie is a little poppet. She is super affectionate and always curled up on my lap. She comes and gives me head bumps when I come home and she purrs like a tractor it's so loud. She is a tiny female who is 5 years old but she still looks like a kitten.

I’ve got 2 tabby brothers. It amazes me how different their personalities are, despite being raised in the exact same way from the same litter. Can’t believe they’ll be 8 years old next week.

Oliver - Most affectionate cat I’ve ever met! Incredibly cuddly and loyal. Doesn’t like strangers, quite nervous. Very lazy - rarely leaves the house, much prefers lounging on my bed 24/7. A big foodie. Likes birds but rubbish at catching them.

Milo - Polar opposite🙈 A big personality! Very cheeky and confident. Nothing seems to scare him. Loves playing with water. A big hunter, always outdoors and loves bringing his kills home as a delightful present for me. Prefers rodents to birds. Very vocal and meows constantly (to the point I took him to the vet as a young kitten, I thought he must’ve been in pain🤣).

My boy tabby is the most laid back lovebug you'll ever meet. We were at the vet yesterday and he was pushing his head into her hand to get her to pet him.

My girl tabby is a Duracell bunny. She loves pets and will headbutt me if I try to stop, but startle her and she'll be off like a rocket.

Neither of them are vocal and very rarely meow, in contrast to my tortie and ginger.

My DCat is long haired tabby and white.
She is the most affectionate old lady - we adopted her age 10 from a rescue and it appeared she had never known a cross word before, she was so trusting and friendly. Loves nothing better than to sleep on a lap for hours and lives for head scratches and strokes. She is also very patient with the DC, has never bitten or scratched - will use a paw to push a grabby hand away if she has had enough. I will say she is the greediest pussy cat that ever lived though Grin

Ours, meanwhile, is a total nutcase, like a rocket-charged weasel.

Hey, give me back my cat!

Tabby cats are a beautiful gift from the heavens, I swear.

Found a stray tabby kitten when I was 8 years old (we had taken his stray mother to the vet shortly before and she had sadly died). The most beautiful, sweet, wonderful cat and he was truly mine.

Over 20 years later I got my beautiful tabby cat and it literally feels like my little stray has been reincarnated and returned to me. He's so patient, so loving, so friendly and communicative. Everything you could want for in a cat.

All cats are lovely but I've found tabbies to just have this wonderful nature about them 🩶

Tabby female, happiest cat in the world, purrs so much but not really cuddly, likes to be near us but not on us and very skittish if there is a noise. Quite a talker.
Tabby and white sister, very shy and quiet, will curl up behind you but not on you and it’s on her terms.
Both glorious lovely things, we are besotted.

berksandbeyond · 27/02/2025 21:02

I have a spicy tabby. She's mellowing with age but she's defo more medium than lemon and herb shall we say

fiorentina · 27/02/2025 21:09

Neutered tabby. He is friendly and loves being near us on a sofa or bed but isn’t a lap cat. Adores the males in the family and DD.
Likes to wake us at 4-5am for us to help him out of his cat flap - can make his own way out at other times but likes us to watch him eat and then have a stroke before going out. 😺

Orangelover · 27/02/2025 21:44

Mine is the most loving, cuddly cat ever. Goes outside for about 5 minutes at a time before trotting back in and heads back to a warm spot. Loves a knee to snuggle on in the evening. Sleeps on my bed every night, when my alarm goes off he physically gets into bed with us for his morning cuddle. He's an absolute dream and I'm so glad he's here with us.

TwoRobins · 27/02/2025 21:45

Mine is a Mackerel Tabby. Loves her cuddles, being centre of attention, is very demanding, very very persistent, can melt your heart with the sweet, angelic face but often gets a ruthless, cold psychotic look in her eyes when she's plotting against you. Loves to wake up in the middle of the night at least once to feed her - or simply to escort to the already full food bowl so that she can start eating.

Our previous Tabby was her daughter and she had a totally different personality. All she wanted to do was play. She loved watching football with her human Dad. She loved to sit with her back legs wide open and her tummy sticking out. She loved playing hide and seek when I changed the bed, burrowing under the sheets and lying low and still so I wouldn't know she was there - until I sang a special song and patted the lump under the sheet which then zoomed over to another part of the bed and begin the game again. She went over the Rainbow Bridge 10 years ago. She still makes me laugh when I think of her. I miss her.

biscuitsandbooks · 28/02/2025 15:45

We used to have a female tabby. She was quite nervous and not a fan of strangers. She liked her "humans" but wasn't much of a lap cat. Loved food though and a fuss on the head.

Both our male orange tabbies have been massive love-bugs. They both love people and other cats and have been very laid back, all things considered. Both had real "orange cat energy" though and not a brain cell between them Grin

pinneddownbytabbies · 28/02/2025 15:55

I have three, two regular tabby and one orange. They couldn't be more different from one another, but both tabbies are very cuddly, and I often wake up in the night to find my head resting on one of them instead of my pillow. The orange one is loving and very talkative, but a quivering bag of nerves and is not a lap cat.

stormsandsunshine · 06/03/2025 14:23

I have a duracell tabby. She is very intense and everything in her life is dialled up to the max. If she's feeling loving, she'll bombard you with head butts and the loudest purr. If she's feeling playful she'll be leaping like crazy round the furniture. If she's anxious she'll hide herself away in the tiniest hole. She would like to sit on laps but she can't stay still long enough. She gets quite highly strung about leaves blowing onto the patio or the fact that it's raining. She's an absolute character.
