Bring a 8 week puppy home

We pick up our 8 week old puppy at the weekend. I would like to know how to sleep and potty train. So much information out there I get lost on utube. Any one have a favourite app , YouTuber , Facebook groups they would recommend? For the early days I just want to follow one idea/person . Also what are people’s views of the puppy sleeping in a Create in your room
for the first few weeks? Thank you

Hi! Congratulations on bringing home an 8-week-old puppy! There is a lot of information about sleep and urine training that can really dazzle people. I can give you a suggestion to consider following Zak George's YouTube channel, he offers a lot of useful training tips. On Facebook, you can look for the groups "Dog Training - Perfect Paws" or "Positive Dog Training". As for the puppy sleeping in a cage in your room for the first few weeks of your home, this method is very effective in helping to build security and develop good habits. Hope these tips are helpful to you and have a great time with your new members!

I don't have any media suggestions but when we had our puppy, he slept in a dog bed on the floor in our room (right next to me) for the first 6 months. (After that he slept in our bed but shhhhhh!). We had puppy pads in the corner of the room which meant he could easily do his 4am poops with minimal fuss (he grew out of these). Once he had all his jabs I spent the weekends out in the garden with him, waiting for him to go to the loo and then giving lots of praise and treats and potty training him didn't take long doing this. He still had a pad in the house for a few months but used it less and less until we realised it had been a few weeks and he hadn't used it so just removed it.

Enjoy it, it goes quickly!

An 8 week puppy will sleep a lot better next to you. You are her whole world now and shes a tiny baby that won't be used to sleeping alone.

I thought the same…becoming increasingly common in ‘dog’ threads, sadly. Even worse, people take the advice as gospel.

I bought a copy of The Happy Puppy Handbook, really useful info in there.

@Netski100 I can't recommend this Facebook group highly enough. Dog Training Advice & Support. It works a bit differently as there are guides etc but it is so helpful.

They do have a book too and I think special groups you can join but the main group is all free.
