My cat has gone missing (again! [sad])

I posted here a few months ago when my little kitty had just had her 3 babies, she went out for a few hours & I thought that she had abandoned them. Thankfully she came home that night.
We re-homed one of her babies but couln't persuade any of my friends to have the other one, we had planned on keeping one. Well about 3 of them said they would love her & their kids were desperate to have her but their Dad said no so that was that. Anyway, I didn't want to advertise her & then for her to go to strangers so we ended up keeping two. Up until a couple of months ago, when little ones were about 6 months old, they were still having milk from mum even though she had been spayed & vet said that the milk would dry up, she put a stop to that a little while ago.
since a few weeks now she has been staying out for longer & longer, coming in for food, having a long sleep then going out for a whole day & night again. she usually turns up with her catch of the day in her mouth! Since a few weeks now she has been really horrid to her babies, snarling at them if they go near her, & even at DS when he goes to stroke her, which is so unlike her & she has always been so affectionate.
She went out Sunday night & we haven't seen her since I have been out calling her & looking for a black body on the verges, but there is no sign of her. I am going to do posters tomorrow to put through doors & up on lamposts etc. Any kitty people out there who want to reassure me that she is not dead, just found a new home where she is once again the only cat. If this is what has happened then I don't mind, I just want to know that she is ok, well I do mind but got no choice in the matter really.
Sorry for long post, just really worried about her.

One of my cats went missing for a week a couple of weeks ago. I was certain that was that but she turned up limping with an abcess on her leg. They do take themselves off sometimes if they've hurt themselves.

I'm not an expert but maybe she's gone off to break the bond with her babies and she'll come back soon.

I'm so sorry! I have two cats and I know what it feels like when one goes missing. When I moved house about eight years ago my cat ran away and I was absolutely devastated...

The good news is that she came back (and is cuddled up right next to me as I write). If you can leave your door open as much as possible, it might help - my kitty just randomly turned up when my DH was cooking chicken (that probably helped to) with the door open. Putting up signs is a definite good idea too - lots of people got in touch, though none of them had the right cat!!

I'm a bit concerned she will run away once my baby is born as she is very attached to me, but I'm going to give her lots of attention and treats to keep her happy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you - weebleswobbles is probably right - she just need some time on her own and will come back when she realises how much she misses you!
xx

Thank you thebluenoser, glad to hear your kitty came home. I am going to cook prawns tomorrow, my little kitty loves them, hope she smells them from wherever she is.

She has come home! Still in a grumpy mood, had her food & gone out again. Am going to get the vet to check her over, might be something wrong that we can't see.

Great news alfie! What did the vet say?

alfielooloo · 11/05/2008 17:44

Vet not open at the week-end so I am going to take her tomorrow.

Yay! I'm so glad she came back. It took my cat a bit of time to settle back down when she came home. Probably a good idea to take her to the vets though...

my cat was gone for 2 weeks recently, he turned up last sunday and has been coming in for dinner every night and heading straight back out again. he's a tom cat though so it happens round this time of year.

are either of the kittens male? maybe she's uncomfortable having adult toms in her home. it's not really natural for adult males to stay living anywhere near their mother.
