Cat fight abcess

Just that really. I'm just wondering if anyone has had similar and could advise on a ballpark figure from the Vet.

It's about the size of a golf ball and hasn't popped so I'm assuming it's an abcess but, there was an almighty fight in the garden a week ago so I'm assuming, at this stage it's that.

Any ideas on £ pls.

Ring the vets. It'll be so, so painful for the cat and needs sorting asap.
If you don't have the money, can you use PDSA or a charity like cats protection to help you?

My cat had one. Vet drained it, gave us some cleaning stuff, a shot of antibiotic and some pain relief. Cost us about £110?

My cat had one that did burst (I didn't realise what it was until it started oozing 🤢). The vet cleaned him up but he didn't need antibiotics. Was the standard cost of a consultation plus an anti inflammatory. About £100 I think

Ours had one, wasn't too bad, around £90/£100

My cat had one. Hadn’t noticed as he was quite a big cat. He scratch his face on the side of the kitchen unit and it burst. What a mess. I cleaned it up and bathed the wound until it was clean. Didn’t take him to the vet and it healed by itself.
You could bathe it with cotton wool and warm water and then it will probably burst.

ParsnipPuree · 12/01/2025 22:18

Of course it nods to go to the vet and fast as it will be in agony. Mine had one and needed antibiotics, I can't remember exactly how much but I just couldn't leave him to suffer.

My cat had one this year, £150 for everything and two consultations. Your cat will be in real pain please get them looked at

Your cat is no doubt in a lot of pain and needs the vet. PDSA can help if you're low income and receiving benefits. It'll be cost of consultation plus the antibiotics, roughly £80-120 depending on your area, vet fee and which antibiotic. Please don't leave it, they can be very nasty.

My cat had one that burst too (didn’t even know he had it). I bathed it in salt water for a few days and it healed really quickly.

Didntask · 12/01/2025 22:36

The cat will be in pain, get to the vets!

twiddlingthumbs69 · 13/01/2025 07:52

Just to be clear I am definitely going to the vets as soon as they open. There's no way I'd leave a car in this state (mine or others) regardless of the cost, I was just asking for a ballpark figure.

It has burst now and my little chonk has just decided to disappear out.

Thank you for all your advice
