My mums cat (well was my cat, got him when i was 11!) is 16/17, and the past couple of weeks seems to be drinking ALOT of water, much more than normal, he is completely fine, apart from not being able to jump the fence because of old age, and recently cannot jump on the chair, my mum has to lift him.

He has gone very old lately, his back has gone very bony (and he was always a very well built cat!) infact he has gone bony all over apart from his belly!

Could drinking excessive water be a sign of a kidney problem? He LOATHES going to the vets and is fine in every other way which is why my mum hasn't taken him yet, it would seriously stress him out.

Any ideas?

We will all be so upset when anything happens to him, he was my best friend when growing up, and i am worrying about him lately.

This happened to our cat, and it turned out to be her kidneys, yes. She had to be put to sleep in the end, as the vet we had been using had ignored my concerns. So its best to get it before its too late. Obviously, I'm not an expert, so it might not be that at all

pucca I have a cat of same age and she has been drinking lots and has got very skinny it is due to hyperthyroidism she is now on pills to control it but she also has heart failure because of it she is also on pills for that
saying all that in herself she is fine meowing alot and still active
it is definitely worth taking him to the vet my vet says it should all be under control in a couple of weeks
