Felt Bad Rehoming My Deceased Relative's Dog

PreciousCry · 19/11/2024 18:39

I re-homed my relative's 🐕 a couple weeks ago because she was very hard to keep. She was so hyperactive and full of energy. Sometimes she would want to come in my room and bang the door constantly, chew up things, etc. I have been thinking about giving her a new home for a long time but kept punishing myself keeping her. I'm I thinking too much about it. I do message the owners weekly to see how she is doing and the new news always sends me pictures. I just wanted to give her to someone who can ❤️ her and give her what she needs.

Didn't you rehome via a proper shelter? Or to someone you knew well?

Not a shelter but a person who was interested in adopting a dog. I did tell my friend to message the guy and found out he told my friend he brought a new dog 🏠. I was happy when I found that out.

Do you know this person or not?

Do you know this person or not?

Not really but I am confident this person will take care of the 🐕.

You are mad just giving the poor animal to some random that you don’t know

DarkForces · 19/11/2024 18:50

How on earth can you know that? People who use dogs as fighting bait can pretend to be nice for the sake of the next dog who'll be ripped to shreds. Why on earth not rehome via a charity?

Edited

Yes I know people use dogs for dog fighting but I message them all the time. Always giving me new pictures of her.

Too late for this poor pup now but hopefully someone else might see this and think twice

Rehoming is fine. Rehoming the poor thing to some unvetted random is not.

The emojis in lieu of words are throwing me off

I’m sure dog is fine, and happy. Not everyone looking for a pet is evil and looking to use them for violence. We bought two kittens from a seller we didn’t know - our cats have the life of luxury and we literally are their slaves!

I asked everyone I knew if they wanted her and many of them said no because was so hyperactive which I wasn't aware of until someone sat me down and explained it to me because I was also wondering why is she so hyperactive, chewing things, chewed the bathroom door in the past, etc.

You did the right thing. Sounds like she has a great home with lovely people.

I got a cat some years ago from a Gumtree ad. I brought my young daughter along to see her so the women who couldn’t keep her was reassured. The cat was adored and has a wonderful life. Not that I would advocate rehoming on Gumtree.

That was lucky for them. Sadly some animals aren't so lucky which is why you should re home to someone you know well or via a shelter. It's absolutely awful to rehome any other way

We adopted a dog 11 years ago from a young couple who didn’t know us. We sent updates, they had taken on too much and couldn’t cope with a young family. She’s still with us at the age of 12, minus one ear, due to cancer. She’s has the life of luxury along with two Frenchies who take over all of the furniture. They took a chance with us and it’s turned out all good, I’m sure everything is fine 🤗

mcmooberry · 19/11/2024 19:12

Sounds like it's all worked out for the best. She would probably have hated being in a shelter best to go straight to a new home.
