Worried about leaving my cat alone for one night out

It’s Diwali season and the big day for those who celebrate is tomorrow.

In June, I booked a night out to see a show (I’d no idea it was Diwali back then when I booked). The show starts at 7.30pm and their fireworks start at anytime from 5pm to late, round my way. I’m worried about leaving my cat for about 5 hours on his own. I’ve never left him alone with fireworks before. He usually just stays upstairs when anything like this goes on knowing I'm just downstairs. What can I do to add any comfort for him in my absence?
TIA.

Radio on and all the lights on? For the noise to be drowned out?;

Draw all curtains so there are no flashing lights. Lock any cat flap and leave down fresh cat litter and food. Maybe put on some quiet radio or TV - whatever noises are normally on in the house. We never used Feliway so can't comment on whether it would help or not.

Our cat never minded fireworks. But he was a very chilled boy.

Leave the radio on - lots of cats enjoy classical music 🎶

Leave a couple of your jumpers out that have your scent on them.

Close all curtains and blinds to help muffle the noise.

Make sure he’s eaten plenty before you leave so he’ll be more comfortable and inclined to sleep.

Everything will be fine 😻

Your wee cat will be fine. Our late cat used to like sitting at the window to watch them 😅

They'll be fine 🙂

All good suggestions on here, build him up a pillow fort is another idea I just read as the pillows muffle out the sound. I wish fireworks would be made soundproof. I know so many dogs and cats who are absolutely terrified of them and in a few days it's bonfire night then NYE. It's really tough on them as kind of relentless when it gets to this time of year.

Thank you very much everyone. Your advice was great! Well, I had my night out and left my boy cat listening to LBC! I don't think the fireworks were as massive as I thought. He came straight downstairs as soon as I got in and I gave him cuddles and kisses ❤.
