Missing cat- heartbroken

My cat has been missing for 2 days and I am beside myself with worry. Going out to hand out leaflets and posters when they arrive tomorrow.

I’m crying constantly and it’s all I can think about. I have no children yet so she feels like my baby. I’ve been reading threads on here with you all reunited with your lost cats and it’s given me some comfort and hope.

I have done hoover contents outside, clothes outside, litter tray outside. FB group posts.I know it’s still early days but it’s just torture. If anyone has any more success coming home stories I’d love to hear.

Our beloved cat went missing for a fortnight, it was when he had an undiagnosed thyroid issue and got a bit confused. We went out every single night calling for him and it took 14 days until we heard a response... even circling back on the same areas. He was skinny, sad and just had temporarily lost his way. We think he was locked in somewhere and when he got out he just didn't know where he was. We took him to the vet because he was so skinny and we didn't want to do any damage and that's when the thyroid issue came to light. After a week of medication and close monitoring (we all smothered him with even more love and attention than usual as you can imagine!) and he was right as rain again. It was very scary, but worked out well and he lived to a ripe old age. And the stats are on your side - 75% are found within 500 metres of where they were last seen and come home. Sending you love.

My cat came back yesterday after being missing for twelve weeks. While I hope your cat comes home sooner.

My cat went missing 3 years ago. It was during a really hot week in July and I was so worried about her. I was out putting up flyers, leaflets through doors, and took time off work to search for her. Posting all over social media too obvs. I went out at 3am searching and calling her, hoping the quiet of night might encourage her to come out.

I had a gut instinct she was nearby and I was right. I was knocking on doors to ask ppl if I could search their gardens and garages and there was one house who only answered the door the third time I tried. Lo and behold she was hiding under a bush by their garage!

Follow your gut and don’t give up. You know your cat, what would they do? Are they the sort to go into someone else’s home? Or are they likely to be hiding?

Thank you so so much!! She is so adventurous and curious if you leave a window or a door open she WILL enter someone else's house!! It frustrates me!

She’s an excellent huntress so I hope she is just roaming and having fun. I take comfort that it’s still early days- I’m crossing everything!!

OMG I had this last week.

We think she got into a van while some scaffolders were working.

Two absolute angels found her and took her to a vet hospital and I got her back via microchip.

She was dusty and quiet (normally she is very vocal) and had picked up a bit of a cough but after antibiotics and painkillers she is getting back to her old self.

I hope yours comes back soon.

Please try calling around local vets, mine was handed in to one a few miles away although she was found closer to home.

And I have just seen your update. Great news.

whiskeyarmadillo · 12/10/2024 07:06

So glad she is home!

Mine goes on mini breaks during the Summer where he lives outside in local woods and fields for a couple of days. It's terrifying.

It's so much more worrying when it's cold.

Give her a cuddle from me.

Kattycatty · 12/10/2024 07:09

Great news. One of mine went missing recently - nowhere to be seen. Strolled back after 3 days.

Carabelliana · 12/10/2024 07:19

Oh gosh I empathise with you. My daughter's beloved cat went missing for four days, me & my husband searched 6-8 hours a day, put up posters etc.
Just as we were widening our search (to @ 3 mile radius) we had a call from someone who had seen our Community FB post. It was someone two doors away & the flipping cat was hiding behind her shed!!
Have faith, she'll come back, but do ask neighbours to check sheds, see if anyone local has gone on holiday, locked her in a house or garage etc. and do look carefully under shrubs & bushes in case she's had a run in with another cat or a slight accident & she recovering. Best of luck x

Carabelliana · 12/10/2024 07:20

Oh just seen your update - fantastic news! :)

WonderingWanda · 12/10/2024 07:46

Great news that she's home. I hate it when they do this. Mine did it over Christmas once, we were distraught. Turns out one of the neighbours was away but had left a small window open and their heating blasting away on constant and food for their cat. Turns out my cat was living his best life eating all their cat food and sleeping all over their beds!

sashh · 12/10/2024 07:53

Er... can we have a pic.

So glad she is home. I had tragic news recently and I understand all too well the heartache. I knew he was gone though after only a few hours. So glad your beautiful girl is home.

myfitbitisfucked · 12/10/2024 15:58

She’s lovely! Glad she’s home.

CallYourselfAChef · 12/10/2024 16:23

Things you can do -

Ring all vets within a 10 mile radius
Ring RSPCA and PDSA, also local council (the department that deals with removing dead animals from the road)
Put a notification in your local shop window
Post on Facebook
Register with Pets Reunited

One of mine once went missing for 4 days, turned up all wet and thin.

Son's cat was missing for almost 3 weeks, she had been locked in the shed of the nearby primary school.

I am THRILLED for you and thank you for updating. They like to make us worry! Honestly, am so pleased for you and your cat! X

sashh · 13/10/2024 06:16

She's beautiful.

Mine, the cheeky bugger asked to go out yesterday so I let her. She did whatever kitty business she had and then I saw her trot down the street, duck under the new neighbour's gate and as it was wet I could see a reflection of her feet as she sauntered in to their kitchen.

New neighbour brought her back a couple of hours later.

It's like she now has a second home and a chauffeur to bring her back.

Babbahabba · 13/10/2024 13:40

Worth getting a GPS tracker for peace of mind.

susiedaisy1912 · 13/10/2024 13:46

So pleased she's home
