Sturdy microchip catflap

Having a indoor kitten who is too clever for her own good, she manages to open the Sure Petcare DualScan catflap that is programmed for our outdoor adult cat.
The kitten is a Maincoon who is not neutered, so we can have a couple of litters. But obviously we want it to happen with a chosen male, not any Tomcat.
The vet suggested to get a sturdier cat flap, but I can't find any advice regarding my particular problem.
If someone could recommend a good catflap that can't be broken, it would be fantastic. Thanks

Haven't got any suggestions. Just here for the photos Grin

Any joy yet @Mu80?

LucyandLudwig · 13/10/2024 15:06

Definitely can't advise without seeing a photo first!

@PolaroidPrincess @lucyandludwig
Sorry about that. Here is a picture of the carflap. I thought she broke the latch at first, buy now I know she manages to get her paw on the other side and lift it up...

@Mu80 it's a photo of the cat we want to see😸

Mu80 · 14/10/2024 09:29

Lol, I wasn't sure why you would want tosee the catflap... 😹

She is gorgeous!
And looks very clever - one of my Siamese used to wait until the other cats were coming in the cat flap and hold it open and then go out - is that what she is doing?

Be really really careful when she is on heat!

Mu80 · 14/10/2024 13:49

I'm kind of hoping she is now on heat and it won't get worse... wella girl can hope 😂
Luckily it seems all the cats around are female. But you only need one, don't you? It's a bit of a pain atm as my other cat is an outdoor cat, so we lock (putting something in front of it) the catflap at night and whenever the outdoor cat is in. But it's not ideal

The dual-scan cat flap locks both ways (in and out) doesn't it?

The photo you posted says 'Sure flap' - does this only lock one way?

If the cat flap is locked both ways unless the microchipped cat activates it, how is your kitten opening it?

I'm interested as I've just bought a dual scan one (not arrived yet) for the same reason and I'm hoping it will stop my kittens escaping...

Mu80 · 14/10/2024 17:12

@HappyBackHome well yes it is a dual scan and it is set to be locked for her. Somehow she manages to put her claws underneath. Then i suppose she lifts the door and then pulls it so she can get out. She is so clever, it's annoyingly crazy 🤪 .
So the dual scanning is a great idea for probably most cats, but not all of them.
We even built her a catio thinking it would distract her, but that's not enough... 🙄

I'm m not sure something so beautiful can be labelled as "the culprit" can they? Grin

Mu80 · 14/10/2024 20:47

Haha, I know... she is a monkey, but also so adorable. She keeps us on our toes, that's for sure😂
