Rodents in the home? What could it be?

When I’m lying in bed at night I can hear scratching sounds that sounds like it’s coming from the walls or ceiling? I’ve had pest control up in the loft today who have found no droppings at all and no evidence of anything being around. He said it could possibly be birds on the roof that’s causing the sound. Has anyone had this before and it’s turned out to just be birds? I’ve worked myself up that there is something in there so I’m jumpy as hell !

Squirrels?

Yes I hear loud pattering feet sounds from the roof. Was always perplexed but definitely can’t be anything up there as have a loft room. Looking over the road I can see magpies hopping around which I assume is the sound. It sounds like an elephant

It may be rats who have only recently got access to cavity walls and are exploring? This is how ours started them made their way into loft after a few days.

Silver lining tho - often there's only one or two who go first as "reconnaissance " to see how habitable and cosy your home could be. I'd keep an eagle eye on the loft and as soon as you see droppings get pest control in pronto.

Also if birds you are less likely to hear them in the night. Rats start getting active we found 5pm onwards through to 6am ish

Thanks for your replies guys! I’ve heard it a few times not just recently, the first time was a few months ago. So whatever it is has been there a while, hence why I really expected something to be up there. I know I must be just over sensitive about it as I’m hearing noises that just aren’t there now as I’ve worked myself up so much! I know there are deffo birds on the roof but I just didn’t think I’d hear them walk ! But the pest man said that if there was anything here it would leave something behind and there was nothing at all up there, in any cupboards or around the house but I can see a couple people have had the same experiences with birds!
