Beloved dog put to sleep

We had to put our adored dog to sleep last week at extremely short notice. My daughter (16 3/4) has just started a new school. She had an extremely close bond with the dog from beginning to end. She had one day off but has reacted by completely blocking the death out through distraction and busyness, almost seeming heartless. Which of course she isn’t.

does anyone have experience to share? Thank you.

I'd be pleased that my almost 17 year old is finding ways to cope and adapt along side coping with school move . It might hit home more later or she might just be getting on with it her in her own way. Just be there for her when she needs you. Don't think of her as heartless as I'm sure she's not. She's got a lot on her plate at the moment.

Kids and teens can appear to bounce back very quickly when it comes to death. They cope by blocking and doing, so please don’t worry as her behaviour is normal and healthy.
The busier she is, the better. When the initial grief has settled for you, ask her what her funniest memories of your dog are? From there she can express her feelings with you. Xx
