Get a Puppy with Guinea Pigs?

I would love to get a dog but I've always presumed it would be worrying / stressful for our (indoor) guinea pigs if we introduced one, especially now that they are classed as being elderly (5 years old).

However, I'm wondering if this is maybe me being over the top? We've had my granddad's dog come into the house once (unexpected visit) and they didn't show any signs of stress, but then the dog wasn't interested.

Does anybody have any experience of getting a puppy (possibly a labrador) while keeping guinea pigs? Or am I right in thinking I should wait until the inevitable happens?

Thank you

I got a puppy with guinea pigs. The puppy would bark and scratch as the cage, the piggies totally ignored her!
I however wouldn’t get piggies now as my dog would probably behave in the same way and the new pigs would probably be terrified.

Could you keep the puppy out of the room with the guinea-pigs in? And then slowly introduce them with the puppy on a lead.
We have a golden retriever and two guinea-pigs they get on fine. The guinea-pigs have always been in cage but there was on sweet moment where they put their noses together and sniffed each other.
