Found cat

Tonight we found a cat at a busy service station next to the m4. Asked people inside working and they said they had never seen it. Didn't know if we were doing the right thing picking it up as we live an hour away but I couldn't leave them there either. It wandered under parked cars that had engines running and didn't seem to have any road sense. Asked the on site hotel and they said it was here this morning. Asked if there were any houses nearby and he said there was over the other side of m4 but none nearby. Got home and husband looked on Google maps and could see houses only a field away. Now feeling guilty. What would you have done? I'm usually one to complain to my hubby about seeing people pick up cats they find down streets as cats roam but was worried about this one.

Sounds like you did the best thing. Are you going to take to vets to be scanned for microchip?

CherrySocks · 20/07/2024 23:39

Maybe took a trip in a delivery van?

KatiesMumWoof · 20/07/2024 23:43

I think it's one of those things where you had to be there.

but if it let you pick it up and sat on your knee on the way home? I doubt it's a stray.

tonight keep it inside, give it a bed, sort out a litter place (box will do for one night) & shut it in the utility room downstairs loo etc small room preferably with a hard floor.

Tomorrow you should find someone to scan it (Rescue places usually do it for free, vets often charge) take it from there...

Friendly Reminder: your Kitty Tax is over due

Take it to the vets to get chip checked and look at local Facebook pages to see if anyone missing their cat. Think you did the right thing as it could have got in a van or something and been dumped.

Thank you, sorry I should have said in my post, that was our intention on taking them to be scanned. As much as i love anomals, i wouldnt ever just keep something i found without making aure it didnt have a home first. So far, shes a she, ive requested to join the local page.. worried when i put her on there that if she does have home someone is going to be nasty that i picked her upxand took her an hour drive away and she has 3 ticks on her, sure she feels a bit better without them. Thank you everyone.

How did you get on @Feelinfoolish ?

Feelinfoolish · 23/07/2024 22:09

She's back home now, the vets said that the owners weren't very happy about there long trip. :/ sometimes you don't feel you can do the right thing. I imagine she will be roaming the carpark again soon

It was absolutely the right thing to do. It could sell have escaped from someone's car.
