We have two cats - a brother and sister who are 2 and a half. We adore them both but our patience is being severely tested by our boy cat who is spraying all over our house. A bit of background: we’ve had them since they were kittens. They get on well and still groom/cuddle each other. They have access to outside through a microchip cat flap - our girl cat is much more confident and active and spends a lot of time outside. However our fluffy boy is generally lazier, appears more anxious and spends most of his time inside. He has access to 3 different litter trays that his sister doesn’t use. They were both neutered as soon as they reached cat puberty to prevent any incest babies…
The issue is he sprays all over the house. Expensive curtains? Tick. Toaster? Tick. Radio? Tick. Electrical sockets several times to the point he’s tripped the electricity? Tick.
We’ve tried a range of things: we’ve got feliway plug ins in the main rooms, used mint and eucalyptus oils, he’s been to the vets but there’s not a physical issue, we’ve given him calming drops, we use an enzyme-based cleaner on everything and generally his fluffy highness is adored and looked after. There are other cats in the area but they can’t get into the house. One theory is that because he doesn’t have territory outside he feels the need to mark his territory inside. However I don’t know what we can do to try and prevent the spraying. Any bright ideas? Picture attached of the fluffy terror.
