Our 1 year-old cat has died tonight (sensitive)

He was hit by a car. A kind man posted on our village FB page and we knew straight away it was him 😞 Hubby has collected his body and we have said our goodbyes. Mercifully it looked like it would have been very quick. I can't stop crying.
What do well tell our little girl? She has only just turned four and she adored him 💔

Honestly I don’t know what the right thing is to say to your little girl, how difficult.

Does she have nursery tomorrow? If so maybe wait till after to say anything, so she doesn’t have to go in upset?

Would it be easier on her if he “goes missing” for a couple of days before you say he’s sadly been found - might be less of a sudden shock? Or would she just get more anxious that way?

I think at this age stories about him crossing the rainbow bridge to kitty heaven where he can play with friends might help.

@minipie Thank you so much. Neither of us have a faith and don't believe that there is a heaven, so it doesn't feel right to be telling her that.
I think we need to tell her in the morning and I know there will be tears (from us all) but I suppose it's healthy for her to know that it's OK and to cry and be sad.
I'm just thinking if it's hard to tell her about a cat, how's it going to be when parents pass? We're both older parents - hubby's parents in 80s, mine in 70s 😢

I know what you mean, I don’t believe either but would be tempted to make up some sort of kitty afterlife, but not if you don’t feel comfortable with that. I hope you can get some sleep tonight and things go ok in the morning x
