Patterdale x shih tzu

Hi all - my husband and I are interested in rehoming a patterdale x shih tzu and wondered if anyone could tell me a bit about the breed?

I'm a housewife so they would never be on their own and we live in the country with access to open fields

Also what are they like with cats? We visit my brother a lot who has two.

Thanks all

They aren’t a breed, they are a mixed breed, so look at both breeds and it will be somewhere between them both.

Agree with pp. And characteristics like being good or not with cats are very individual dog dependent. What does the rescue say?

They are polar opposites as breeds. Best to ask the rescue. Patterdales are a lot of dog in a small body

I wouldn’t trust a patterdale with a cat , they are working terriers and it’s in teh genes although they are also incredibly loving . Our patterdale x is 14 and would still happily dispatch a cat , or anything else small and furry that isn’t a dog . I can’t imagine why anyone thought it was a good idea to X those 2 breeds .

What a bizarre mix.

Patterdales are hardy working dogs bred to kill small furry things and run for miles across the fells of Cumbria. They're often dog aggressive and can't be trusted with cats or any kind of small animal.

Shih-tzus are generally placid little lap dogs who don't need tons of exercise and have little prey drive.

Patterdales can be very hard work and can go wrong with inexperienced owners. I know one on its third home.

Thanks all for the replies. We didn't view the dog in the end, the owner decided she wasn't ready to let them go but after thinking about it we were glad as it doesn't sound like the right breed for us
