I'm looking after my mum's hamster for a week and she didn't really leave me with proper instructions. Can you give them too much or will they stop eating when they have had enough?

OK my Dh is manager of pets at home and says you can over feed a hamster. You should ensure a small amount of food is available daily. Hamsters store their food so wont go hungry unless left for days without food.
he advises about 20ml????? of food per day. not much!

We give a small bowl of hamster food a day, and check to see if there is excessive storing in the bed, if so then you're probably feeding too much! Most hamsters like fresh things like apple/grape/melon/carrot/cucumber, but these should only be given in very small amounts, as otherwise they go mouldy. Don't forget to check the water too.

TYE: Sorry ofr the delay in answering! Dh says dry food is better for kittens, try HILLS kitten food but change to dry adult food at a year old. Feed in morning and at night about half a cup full. Also try and give some fresh chicken and tuna in to the diet.
