she's 13
doesn't go out for a wee for hours and hours, literally may go out at 10pm ish(I presume she wees)then doesn't go out again until 2pm ish the next day!

Are her kidneys packing up do you think?

Still drinking but has never been a big drinker.

Do you actually take her out?
My small dog is like a sponge and won't ask to go out so I take her out every hour or so.
also, how much exercise does she get?

CountryGirl2007 · 01/04/2008 21:51

also forgot to ask, what type of food does she eat? as a dog that eats dry food will usually drink more water and vice versa.

clumsymum · 01/04/2008 21:56

I wouldn't think she has kidney probs, quite the opposite, she's learnt how to manage her bladder.

If she had kidney probs she'd be bloating, and may well start being confused, as the toxins aren't being cleaned from her bloodstream.

Is she overweight tho'? and check she doesn't have a cough. She may be holding fluid on her chest if her hearts beginning to give trouble.

she eats dried food,is not overweight and could well be a bit confused at times.

She gets a slow stroll but is past long walks now unfortunately.

well keep her going for her strolls anyway, even if she can't trot along any exercise will help keep her joints healthy and help avoid arthritis etc.

You didn't say if you take her out to do her wees?

If you're worried about her, a check-up at the vets will do her no harm. She should get a regular check-up anyway to make sure everything is in good working order.

brimfull · 01/04/2008 22:20

god she's always at the vets

ear infection last week, she has lupus in her toe nails ,arthritis etc.

I do take her out but as I do nights I don't actually get around to walking out the house with her until 2ish.I will go out in the garden with her and see if that makes her go.She's just sleeping most of the time and pretty reluctant to do anything tbh. And if it's raining she hates going out.

Poor old dear, what breed is she? is there anything that gets her excited? Have you considered a companion for her? Sometimes a younger dog can give an old dog a new lease of life. (I'm not suggesting a puppy though since you work long hours I presume)

brimfull · 01/04/2008 22:28

she's a beardie and completely gorgeous

we have decided not to get another dog as ds is allergic

she does get excited at times, when people come home she heaves herself up and pads around for a while.

am just going to try and get her to go outside.

My spinone used to have an amazingly capacious bladder. And as he got older and more reluctant to exercise I think he took longer breaks between wees. I guess that so long as there hasn't been a fairly sudden change, there is not likely to be a kidney problem.

I've just thought, though, that arthritis made my spinone reluctant to poo -- the pain of crouching put him off (TMI). Could a similar arthritic pain be involved when a bitch urinates?

brimfull · 01/04/2008 22:39

hmm yes she does shake when doing a wee
