Can anyone recommend small medium dog breeds, good for family's with young children. Not usually vicious, and that dont have excessive slobber.

How young are the children? Are the children used to dogs?

Being good around young children is more of a training thing and down to the individual dog rather than breed traits.

Have you had dogs before or is this your first dog? This is also a big factor, if you've never had dogs before the training thing is a far FAR steeper learning curve alongside small children. Some smaller to medium dog breeds can work great with children BUT may be more stubborn when it comes to training so would be better with dog-experienced families.

That said, it's worth looking into Poodles, Bichon Frise or Staffies.

I wouldn’t recommend any dog to a family with very young children.

I have a Cavalier King Charles. Beautiful dogs. The one we have now I got from a rescue and is the most placid little thing. I had another CKC and we got him as a pup and he died last yr age 15. He was 3 when I had my son and he was brilliant with him. No barking, snarling or robbing food/toys.
Any dog you need to put the effort in and train them.
Just remember any dog can turn even the most placid dog in the world has its limits. Teach your children to respect the dog, it's not a toy. A dog needs quiet time from the chaos of young children.
