Zinc supplements for dog with kidney disease?

Our dog (16yo, collie x mongrel) has kidney disease but for the past 7 months has been on the Royal Canin renal diet and she's doing well. She is active and still runs around playing with her toys every evening. She's not as keen on walks (unless it's somewhere new, in which case she's interested) and she sleeps a lot more now.

She has recently started trying to eat (clean) tissue paper. I looked it up and it can be a symptom of Pica, which is found in humans and animals, as a deficiency of zinc.

Has anyone had experience of this with their dog, and can I give her dog zinc supplements without it being detrimental to her kidney condition?

I have a lab who will eat anything… so not much help. I would ask a vet personally, some things can hammer the kidneys and damage them further.
Is it just tissue and if so can you move them, so pup can’t grab them?
16 is a great age- they will sleep more as they get older just like we do.

Yes I will ask the vet if I can't get any answers here. I was hoping for some free advice from anyone who had experienced this in an older dog.
