Cats Backside!

Hello,

Are there any vets or veterinary staff out there that can give me a bit of advice? I was cuddling my cat this morning after he jumped up on the bed with me, and I noticed a really nasty smell coming from his rear end. When I had a look I noticed that his bottom looked quite sore, and as if a blister had popped on the actual anus. There was also a small collection of pus on his fur, and some on the bed sheets (duvet now in the washing machine!). There was no blood to note, just pus coloured fluid (yellow, not green). Now that this abscess has burst do I still need to take him to the vets on Tuesday (or sooner?) , will he need antibiotics? He is still very playful and is eating / drinking well at the moment. My friends cat had a blocked anal gland and all they did was squeeze out all the fluid on two appointments. Any help or advice is appreciated!
Thanks
Tiggly

Thanks both. I caught a wiff of the same smell this morning, as he jumped on to the window sill about an hour ago. I had a quick look and I can't see any abcess or pus collection on the outside, but the wiff is there. I think I shall have to keep a close him, how delightful for the poor thing!
