Took dog (collie) to vet this morning, suspected UTI after dipstick urine test. She was prescribed antibiotics and has had them for today. Very shocked to see bright red blood when she stood up just now. Rang out of hours vet, but they said if she is eating, seems herself to leave her till morning. That they couldn't do much anyway, no scan etc.
Does this seem right? What would you do? She's 11, never had anything like this before.

Has she been spayed?

I would probably trust what the vet says. As I human who gets UTI’s bleeding can happen, so I assume it would be similar for a dog. Antibiotics will hopefully kick in after a day or two.

Our dog had a UTI when we first got her (3 years ago), she was weeing blood. She recovered very quickly with antibiotics and hasn’t had another episode since.

Dogs can look like they are weeing blood,my dog suffered with bouts regularly. I put her on a daily dose of high strength cranberry extract tablets, one a day and we never had a problem after that. Previously she had regular issues. They are worth trying as a preventative measure.

Yes, she has been spayed. She seems alright in herself, in fact she would like to go outside and play. But she isn't just peeing blood. She is leaking blood. Her gums are pink though.
I am also worried that people can catch utis from dogs. I have an elderly family member here, just post surgery. Do you think there might be a risk?
