Hi, I have a 4 year old working cocker who since November has started scratching the door at night. Until then he did this occasionally but stopped with a firm no. Now he's winding himself up, panting, salivating, pacing as well. I think the wind was triggering initially, but now it's developing into a habit.

He gets a v good walk every day, and we play hide and seek with toys sometimes. He's been neutered.

Any suggestions are welcome, I really want to help him so we can all feel better!

This is my plan to try... how would you rate these?!

  • hot water bottle
  • large dog cage, made cost with blankets as a safe space
  • outside kennel made cosy, is he scratching ti get outside?

That's all I have 😩 please help m'ners!

Is he doing this late evening or in the early hours. Have you let him go outside to see what is bothering him? Does he need a wee?

Thx for replying! It's a mix. If we let him out for a wee at bedtime he lies down and doesn't want to come in, this is a sign he will scratch.

But, it's a good point, I could do it an hour before his bedtime.
