Russian Blue Cats

Hi, does anybody have experience of Russian blue cats please? I have a very minor cat allergy and I wondered if anybody had been in the same position and they were ok?

Also, if you have any advice or just general tips regarding Russian blue cats, I’d be hugely grateful.

Thank you 😊

Sorry I should have added that i grew up with cats and whilst I did sneeze (not excessively), I was ok. I’ve read that Russian blues produce lower levels of glycoprotein Fel d 1 and that’s why I’m interested in that particular breed 😊

I have one, he does shed plenty but he’s adorable and very affectionate with my youngest child in particular.
They are beautiful cats, he has real attitude though.

We had a beautiful Russian Blue, who sadly passed away last year. I am very allergic to cats, and he didn't make my allergies as bad as usual. I still had to be vigilant about hand washing after stroking him, and when he was a kitten, it did take a while to become a bit "immune" to him, but I do think they are good cats for people with allergies, as mine definitely weren't as severe with him, as they are with our very fluffy ragdoll! He didn't she'd a great deal either, and was a great cat. Very vocal, would come in the car with us, follow us on walks. I miss him everyday, and would definitely get a Russian Blue again.

My husband is allergic. We have two, he has had no reaction to our two. But I do hoover everyday and he does wash his hands after stroking them.
Only pair of arseholes I tolerate in my life Grin (and the little gits love my husband and treat me with haughty disdain).

Thank you all for your comments, they’re really helpful! It sounds like a Russian blue cat is a wonderful pet to have 🥰

They are lovely and very affectionate. My friend had a gorgeous one that she believed died of heartbreak(she left it with friends when she was forced to live away for a long time).

I don’t have a Russian blue but my partner is allergic to most cats and Siberian forest cats worked for us to not trigger his allergies. They are long haired but also have the low skin shedding.

Thank you for all of the comments, they’ve been really helpful. Russian blue cats sound like great companions!

@Falafel2 glad it was helpful, my cat is still waiting for a compliment! 😂

Leyenda · 14/01/2024 20:47

Don’t know about russian blues but the Siberian Forest breed is helpful for mild allergies

I have 2 moggies who I think may actually be a Russian blue and a Russian black. I have allergies. I'm ok with these 2.

@Mountainormolehills please apologise to your kitty from me for my rudeness! He is absolutely gorgeous and he can definitely get away with his attitude because he’s so cute 🐈‍⬛

@Falafel2 he forgives you! He really is very handsome and cute, but we don’t call him cute to his face!

Falafel2 · 15/01/2024 11:45

@Mountainormolehills that sounds wise 🐈‍⬛😆
