We kept tropical fish for about 4 yrs when we were in the UK. Moved to France 4 yrs ago and have just set up a new 260L tank.

We set it up 2 weeks ago, so as yet have not introduced any fish.

It has an external Bio media filter.

Test kit showing:

Nitrate........; OK
Nitrite........; OK
GH Hardness....; HIGH
KH Carbonate Hardness....; HIGH
pH Actiity......; Borderline

I don't ever remember checking the GH & KH when we were in the UK?

Really my question is do you think it's ready to start introducing a few hardy fish?

Don't want to kill the swimming friends.

I'm no expert as I too have only recently got a tank but these links may be useful www.praticalfishkeeping.co.uk www.thinkfish.co.uk both have lots of info on setting up a new tank.

Hopefully the above link explains to you what each of these things mean now. I guess a lot depends upon the fish you want to introduce and their pH and water hardness requirements.

Good luck - sounds fun. I miss our tank and one day will get us a new one.
