Just had my cat put to sleep, distraught!

My cat was attacked this afternoon. According to my son (I was out), something got into the house, my dog went mental, which alerted my son and dog chased it out. He then finds my poor cat bleeding profusely. Was taken to the vets, given pain killers and put on oxygen. I was allowed to go into the treatment room to see him. After x-ray it turns out he has a hole/injury to his trachea. They felt he was too weak to survive an op now and a stent might have caused more stress. So, was put to sleep.
He was such a sweet cat and I am absolutely distraught. Thing is, my DM died earlier this year, with breathing problems and it reminded me so much of what happened to her in hospital.
I'm going through a divorce and house being sold.
I just can't take any more.

Im so sorry, that sounds really shocking and sad. You have a lot going on. Can you focus on self care for the next few days?

Cookerhood · 18/11/2023 19:33

I'm so sorry, it sounds very traumatic.
"Something got in the house" - has your son said what it was? It sounds a bit odd.

CesareBorgia · 18/11/2023 19:36

So sorry, OP. Have you any support in real life - a friend or relative who could be with you?

Lizzbear · 18/11/2023 19:40

Sorry you're having to go through this. Can only imagine how sad and distressed you must feel.
Please try to hold on and find someone nice to talk to, about how sad you feel.

Could the vet say what it was that attacked your poor cat? Any trace of another creature…
I’m so sorry op, that would be devastating to come home to. You’ve been through a lot in a short space of time by the sounds of it.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 18/11/2023 19:43

Oh I am so sorry, OP. That’s incredibly distressing even without everything else you have going on. Sending my best wishes that things look up for you.

Well done on doing the right thing for your cat in having her put to sleep rather than let her suffer x

Thank you for all your kind messages.
My son and friend said they heard my dog bark in a very frantic/angry manner and came rushing downstairs. They saw my dog dash outside (through the cat flap) and my poor cat was inside bleeding. The cat tried to go out again, was walking odd and blood all over the place. They claim to have seen 'something in the living room but it was all a blur'.
My dog loves my cats but dislikes others but he wouldn't know what to do with one if he cornered it. He just hasn't got a vicious bone in his body.
Two weeks ago, both my cats had to go to the vets with bite injuries. It is a common occurrence.
I think there is an evil cat/fox out there. I'm going to set up camera's to see if I can capture it on camera.
I'm just so done with death. I'm upset that I can't afford to bring my cats ashes home.
I can't wait to leave this house that is now representing so much unhappiness.

I've lit a candle for my fur baby and I'm glad he is not suffering anymore.

So sorry for you & your lovely cat, but fit a microchip activated cat flap in your next house if you can, for the sake of your other cats.

I am so sorry. That sounds horrendous for you all. Your poor little cat.

It's dreadful when a cluster of bad things happen all at once. Each hard to cope with, but together, even harder.

Give your little cat a lovely send off and say a proper goodbye. That will help you to cope emotionally.

Big hugs Flowers
