Out of date medication

my cat had been taking medication last year and didn’t end up taking it all. Now he needs to go back on it but I have some left over from last year that is in tablet form and unopened but was out of date last month. Would it be ok to use it? I’ve read that as long as it’s unopened medication even for us humans is perfectly ok for many years after the expiry date.

How long will you be using it for?

Stumpy54321 · 27/10/2023 10:50

For around 6weeks

Personally, I’d use it, especially as I’ve just paid £28 for some antibiotics

It depends what the medication is, and what the condition is.

Medicine doesn't fall off a cliff face, and cease to be effective in a very short period, but it may well have started to degrade and be less effective.

Is there any particular reason your insurance would not over it?

Don’t have insurance as premiums become too expensive after I made a claim.
